Catchment Gauzes

Although in principle various options for recovery of Pt and Rh primary losses in ammonia oxidation processes exist, the most efficient and economical way for recovery is the installation of Pd based catchment gauzes. The excellent recovery capability of our catchment gauzes can be traced back to the surface status of Pd in such systems. It is this getter technology that allows today's ammonia conversion processes to operate at economically feasible levels.

In comparison to the correlation of process characteristics and the catalyst gauzes something similar is also valid with regard to the catchment gauzes. Hence umicore offers four basis types of woven catchment gauzes to perfectly comply with the mechanisms and conditions in any individual operation.

Woven catchment gauzes are characterised by a low porosity and hence a high activity level. To enable them to perfectly fulfil their purpose it is recommended to separate the getter gauzes from each other by our highly inert Megapyr separator screens. These are also woven gauzes that do mechanically support the catchment gauzes especially towards the end of long campaigns, when the Pd alloy becomes more and more fragile due to the increasing content of Pt and Rh.
